What is Sodium Silica used in
What is Sodium silicate?
Sodium silicate, also known as paohua alkali is an inorganic chemical, its aqueous solution is commonly known as sodium silicate which is a mineral adhesive. In chemical terms, it's Na2O*nSiO2, it is a water-soluble inorganic silicate which has a variety of uses. Sodium silicate soluble in water it is colorless, slightly transparent or translucent glass body that is commonly used as filler, fabric fire retardant, and adhesive.
What does Sodium Silicate used for?
Soaps and detergent
It is possible for sodium silicate to enhance surface effects such as the wetting effect caused by organic surfactants (reducing tension on the surface) which helps keep small dirt or oil particles suspended in the detergent and enhancing the ability eliminate dirt from the surface.
The alkalinity that sodium silicate has allows it to neutralize acidic soil and enable the emulsification and the dispersion of protein.
Packaging
A cardboard coating can increase the toughness that the cardboard is made of and also improve their resistance to humidity, fire or pests. Silicate can also be used to repel oil on its own.
It can be used as a catalyst for application of auxiliary materials including paraffin, naphthalene chloride, wax varnish, nitrocellulose and other coatings for cardboard. It will fill the pores of cardboard , and also reduces water absorption in the paper thus reducing the amount of topping coat required.
Construction
Soluble silicate can be used as a cement binder. When Portland is combined with cement, the components undergo chemical reactions , resulting in compounds that have strong bonding qualities. It can also be employed to enhance the strength of concrete.
Mining industry
Soluble Silicate is utilized in many mineral enrichment procedures. The main use of sodium silicate in flotation of ore is as an antiflocculant to disperse undesirable siliceous substances. A small amount of silicate in a quantity similar as that used in cleaning operations is required. The capacity of silicate to create a sodium-ion layer on the surface of the particle is important for preparing the surface for specific separation. Silicate from sodium helps prevent corrosion, thus reducing ball fatigue in the grinding mill.
A water treatment
An anionic silica solution that is dilute and created by soluble silicate could stop the corrosive process of metal surface.
As an additive in water, the dissolved SiO2 may prevent corrosion in the metal storage tanks and distribution lines. It decreases the risk of corrosion on pipes and pumps from acidic water (for instance, from mine drainage) Reduces corrosion during grinding in ball rod mills and minimizes corrosion of machine components as an ingredient in agglomeration, spray drying or dry mixed detergent formulations; and also metal parts used in disheswashing and laundry equipment. It is used as a constituent of the liquid in the 'permanent' vehicle cooling system. As an additive to water treatment components in boilers and cooling towers.
