Apple has been promising a new-and-improved, cutting-edge, AI-powered Siri since it first unveiled Apple Intelligence in 2024. Over about a year and a half since then, the release date for this new era of Siri has been continuously pushed back. According to a new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, we’ll likely have to wait even longer.

While the new Siri was expected to launch with the upcoming iOS 26.4 update in March, now, the changes are expected to roll out more slowly over time, reportedly postponing some features until the May iOS update, or even until the release of iOS 27 in September. Apparently, Apple ran into trouble when testing the software, requiring the launch date to be pushed back further.

The changes are rumored to make the longtime digital assistant more like the LLM chatbots that have swept the tech world — but instead of opening up a ChatGPT or Claude app on your iPhone or MacBook, you would be able to just talk to Siri, which will be powered by Google Gemini.

Roger Luo said:From “Apple built” to “Google powered”—Siri’s reboot is more of a retreat. Two years of delays and no rival product in sight. Borrowing Gemini to stay relevant isn’t a strategy; it’s an admission. Apple’s AI gap is no longer deniable.

Google’s augmented reality platform now works on iPhones. The company announced this expansion today. ARCore powers many AR experiences on Android. It will bring similar features to iOS devices. This change allows developers to build apps once. Those apps can then run on both major mobile operating systems. Previously, developers needed separate versions.

(Google’s AR Platform Now Supports iOS Devices)

This cross-platform support enables new possibilities. Users on different devices can share the same AR experience. Imagine collaborating on a 3D design. Android and iOS users see the same virtual objects in their real surroundings. Friends can play interactive AR games together. These shared experiences were difficult before.

Key ARCore features are included. Motion tracking lets virtual content stay anchored in the real world. Environmental understanding helps apps recognize surfaces like floors or tables. Light estimation makes virtual objects appear more realistic. These core technologies function on compatible iOS hardware. Developers can access these tools through updated SDKs.

Google sees this as a major step. It removes a significant barrier for AR adoption. More users mean more potential for innovative apps. Businesses can deploy AR solutions to wider audiences. Retailers can offer virtual try-ons to nearly all smartphone customers. Educational apps reach more students.

(Google’s AR Platform Now Supports iOS Devices)

The update is available now. Developers can start building or adapting apps immediately. Users will see new or updated AR applications appearing on the App Store soon. This move simplifies AR development significantly. Google provides documentation and support resources online. Specific hardware requirements apply for iOS devices. Apple’s ARKit remains the native platform for advanced iOS AR features. Google’s solution offers a unified development path for cross-platform needs. This broadens the reach of AR technology considerably. Industry experts anticipate increased AR app development activity.
